What is happening to the Secret Service

In the aftermath of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has decided to resign from her position at the federal agency.

The incident, which has attracted intense scrutiny, prompted Cheatle to tender her resignation, effective immediately.

Cheatle’s resignation comes just a day after facing tough questions from lawmakers on Capitol Hill regarding the security lapse during Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania, where he was shot by Thomas Matthew Crooks. Multiple members of Congress expressed dissatisfaction with Cheatle’s vague and unsatisfactory responses, holding her accountable for the incident.

During the hearing, a critical question arose about the timeline for conducting a thorough investigation into the matter and determining how Crooks was able to access the rooftop and take a shot at the former president.

The Secret Service has committed to a 60-day investigation, but this did not appease the lawmakers on Capitol Hill, who were also frustrated by Cheatle’s lack of specific answers regarding Trump’s security detail and the breakdown of communication on that day.

While Cheatle acknowledged her responsibility for the shooting, she initially maintained that the security measures in place for Trump were adequate.

However, the public outcry and the increased demand for Trump’s protection led to a reassignment of additional agents. Despite Cheatle’s attempts to address the concerns, she has now stepped down from her role as Secret Service Director.
