Remembering McCanna Anthony “Mac” Sinise

'Heartbroken' Gary Sinise mourning sudden death of son, 33

Tragic news has struck the Sinise family as they mourn the loss of McCanna Anthony “Mac” Sinise, the son of acclaimed actor Gary Sinise. Mac, who was only 33 years old, tragically passed away after battling cancer.

Gary, 68, took to the Gary Sinise Foundation’s website and his Instagram page to share the heartbreaking news with his followers. He revealed that Mac had been fighting a rare form of cancer called Chordoma since August 8, 2018. Despite Mac’s courageous battle, he sadly lost his fight on January 5.

Gary expressed his deep sorrow in a touching statement. He explained that Mac’s diagnosis came just a few months after Gary’s wife, Moira Harris, was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. While Moira successfully underwent treatment and entered remission, Mac’s condition gradually deteriorated, robbing him of his strength and mobility.

Despite the challenges he faced, Mac remained resilient and passionate about his love for music. He joined the Gary Sinise Foundation as an assistant manager of education and outreach, and he also showcased his talent as a drummer, performing alongside his father in the Lt. Dan Band.

Mac’s dedication to music was evident when he graduated from the University of Southern California, where he studied songwriting and composition. Even though he experienced paralysis from the chest down due to multiple spine surgeries, Mac’s creativity never waned. In fact, just before his passing, he completed work on his album titled “Resurrection & Revival.”

Gary opened up about the immense grief of losing a child, expressing his heartfelt condolences to others who have experienced a similar loss. He emphasized the pain that families of fallen heroes often endure and acknowledged how heartbreaking it is. Gary also shared the difficulties his family faced during their 5 ½-year cancer fight but found solace in Mac’s unwavering spirit and determination. Mac never gave up, even in the face of an incurable cancer.

Mac’s legacy lives on through his family, including his parents, sisters, nieces, nephews, and extended relatives. Gary is committed to honoring Mac’s memory by releasing his album, “Mac Sinise: Resurrection and Revival,” on vinyl.

In the midst of his profound loss, Gary’s words reflect the immense love and admiration he holds for his son. Mac’s memory will continue to inspire and uplift all those who knew him.

Our hearts and thoughts go out to the Sinise family during this difficult time.
