Dolly Parton Reveals Why She’ll Only Go Makeup-Free in Extreme Circumstances

Dolly Parton, the iconic country superstar, is known for her eye-catching looks and flawless makeup. In her upcoming book, “Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones,” Dolly takes us on a journey through her fashion, hair, and makeup choices. At 77 years old, Dolly reflects on how her sense of style has evolved over the years and why people are so interested in her transformation.

Growing up poor in Eastern Tennessee’s Great Smoky Mountains, Dolly didn’t have access to high-end beauty products. But that didn’t stop her. She used her resourcefulness to create her own makeup using ingredients like pokeberries that grew wild in the fields. Dolly shares, “I think all people that grow up in the mountains learn how to improvise with what you don’t have.” Even as she gained fame and success, Dolly never forgot her humble beginnings and continued to mix and match different makeup brands for different colors.

While Dolly has been able to afford every great line of makeup that’s ever come out, she still prefers to stick to a few affordable and reliable brands. Maybelline has always been a favorite for eye makeup, and she also swears by Oil of Olay, Pond’s Cold Cream, and Max Factor’s True Beige shade. According to Dolly, “There are so many products that don’t cost a fortune that are just as good as the most expensive things you buy.”

Nowadays, Dolly is synonymous with over-the-top fashion and beauty looks. She never leaves the house without high heels and a full face of makeup. In fact, the only way you’ll ever see Dolly without makeup is in extreme circumstances. She jokes, “You’d just have to see me laid out on a stretcher.” However, she does mention that she would make an exception if her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, was sick or if there was an emergency.

Dolly’s dedication to always looking her best is admirable. Even in situations where she wouldn’t have control over her appearance, like getting arrested, she wants to avoid looking like some of the stars she’s seen in mugshots. Dolly states, “I’m going to clean up a little if I’m going outside, unless there’s an absolute emergency.”

So, it’s clear that Dolly Parton values the power of makeup and its ability to enhance her beauty. While she’s not afraid to go makeup-free in rare circumstances, she remains committed to her signature glam look, ensuring that she always presents her best self to the world.

Dolly Rebecca Parton (born January 19, 1946) is an American singer-songwriter and actress. She is known for her decades-long career in country music. After achieving success as a songwriter for others, Parton made her album debut in 1967 with Hello, I’m Dolly, which led to success during the remainder of the 1960s (both as a solo artist and with a series of duet albums with Porter Wagoner), before her sales and chart peak came during the 1970s and continued into the 1980s. Parton’s albums in the 1990s did not sell as well, but she achieved commercial success again in the new millennium and has released albums on various independent labels since 2000, including her own label, Dolly Records.
