Isabella Strahan, the 19-year-old daughter of Good Morning America host Michael Strahan, has recently shared her incredible story of strength and resilience in the face of adversity.
Isabella underwent brain surgery to remove a rare and fast-growing tumor known as medulloblastoma. Her recovery process has been agonizing, but she remains determined to overcome the challenges thrown her way.
Isabella’s journey began when she started experiencing excruciating headaches and morning vomiting. It wasn’t long before she received the life-changing diagnosis of medulloblastoma.
She underwent emergency surgery to remove the 4cm tumor, followed by a grueling month of rehabilitation. During this time, she had to re-learn how to walk, a testament to her unwavering perseverance.
In a series of videos posted on YouTube, Isabella opened up about the harsh realities she faced during her surgery and recovery. She described the side effects she experienced, such as using a walker and wheelchair to move around, as well as the emotional toll it took on her.
The steroids she was taking resulted in heightened emotions, causing her to break down whenever she met someone new. Isabella also shared that she spent more time in New York recovering than she did at college.
Throughout her journey, Isabella’s courage and resilience have been awe-inspiring. She underwent the egg freezing process to protect her fertility, as radiation and chemotherapy can affect it. Despite her fear of needles, she persisted, managing to get through three shots in her stomach every day for a week. Isabella’s strength is truly remarkable.
During her recovery, Isabella embraced her bald head. She decided to shave her hair and found it liberating. Although it was a sad experience for her, she refused to let it define her. Isabella decided to focus on the positives, like being able to enjoy homecooked meals and spending time with her beloved dogs.
Looking ahead, Isabella remains positive about her future. She will undergo six months of chemotherapy at Duke University, where her twin sister, Sophia, is studying. Isabella is excited about returning to normal life eventually, including going back to school. She longs to take her sister’s final exams and resume her education. Isabella’s doctor, Dr. David Ashley, appeared on Good Morning America alongside her and her father, Michael Strahan, to shed light on her condition. He explained that although medulloblastoma is incredibly rare in patients her age, Isabella’s prognosis is good. She has the WNT subtype of the tumor, which boasts a survival rate of 90 percent or more beyond five years. Dr. Ashley is confident that Isabella’s outcome will be terrific, and she is already doing fabulously.
