The love story between Rosalynn and Jimmy began in Plains, Georgia, where they both grew up. They were married in 1946, after Jimmy’s graduation from the United States Naval Academy.
Reflecting on their first encounter, Jimmy fondly shared, “I didn’t know a single boy I thought I’d want to spend my life with until Jimmy Carter came calling.”
Rosalynn was equally smitten and remembered their first date vividly: “We rode in the rumble seat of a Ford pickup, and under the full moon, conversation flowed effortlessly. I knew I was in love.”
