Fox News continues to dominate the ratings, leaving rivals MSNBC and CNN in the dust. In 2022, Fox News delivered the third highest-rated year ever in cable news history for total day viewers.
This marks the seventh consecutive year that Fox finished as the number one cable network in both primetime and total day in viewers on basic cable. In fact, Fox News has been the highest-rated cable news network for an impressive 21 years in a row.
According to data from Nielsen/MRI Fusion, Fox News attracted the most politically diverse audience in cable news. More Democrats, Independents, and Republicans tuned in to Fox News than any other network in terms of total viewers as well as the younger demographic of A25-54.
In an industry filled with competition, Fox News achieved its second-highest share of the cable news audience in its history in the 25-54 demographic during total daytime viewership, capturing an impressive 53%. Additionally, Fox News held the attention of 55% of the primetime audience in terms of total viewers.

Fox News proved its dominance by scoring the top 13 out of 15 programs in cable news with total viewers. The list included popular shows such as The Five, Tucker Carlson Tonight, Jesse Watters Primetime, Hannity, Special Report with Bret Baier, The Ingraham Angle, Gutfeld!, Outnumbered, America’s Newsroom, The Faulkner Focus, Your World with Neil Cavuto, America Reports, and The Story. Furthermore, Fox News secured the top 15 rated shows in the A25-54 demographic and the 13 highest-rated shows within the 18-49 demographic.
One standout show on Fox News is ‘The Five,’ which has shattered records in the industry. In a groundbreaking achievement, ‘The Five’ became the first non-primetime cable program to rank number one in viewers for a full year. Airing at 5 PM ET, ‘The Five’ surpassed all daytime and primetime programming on CNN and MSNBC, garnering the largest audience in cable news for 2022. The show attracted an impressive 3,432,000 viewers and 465,000 in the A25-54 demographic.
